5 Tips for Making the Most out of Meditation

There are people who take up meditation and do it faithfully for several weeks before finally abandoning it. Some become frustrated that they are not getting the results that they expected when they first signed up for it. Below are five tips that can help you make the most out of your practice of meditation.

1) Practice meditation in a quiet place.

While you cannot completely shut yourself out of the distractions around you, it would help a lot if you can meditate in a quiet area, or at least a place which cuts down outside noise considerably.

2) Choose a room with comfortable temperature.

Whether the room’s too cold or too hot, both can destroy your mood for meditation. It would, therefor,e help to find a room with a temperature control so you can adjust it to a temperature where you’re most comfortable

3) Wear comfortable clothes.

Again, the bane of people practicing meditation is distraction. You should, therefore, wear comfortable clothes as they will help you be more at ease and relaxed.

4) Find a teacher.

Sometimes, it can be frustrating to practice meditation without the proper guidance. A teacher can guide you and will help a lot in giving you the most out of meditation.

5) Read books on meditation.

Whether you have a teacher or not, it would help to have reference materials which can help broaden your appreciation for this activity. Books do not only give you information but also insights on how to meditate better.

What Is Nyasa?

Tao Semko of Umaa Tantra explains the Tantric practice of nyasa. Here is another explanation from the book Mahanirvana Tantra (Tantra of the Great Liberation) translated by Arthur Avalon.
Nyasa is a Sanskrit word which translates as "placing," "applying," or "touching." But it is much more.

Nyasa is the conscious act of touching or placing the fingers or hands on sacred, sensitive, or medicinally active points of the body. In hindu tantric meditations and pujas, the practitioner lays his hands on himself in each of these places, in special sequences.

The meditator infuses each location with a special mantra, visualization, or feeling, which is spoken aloud or mentally conjured. Read more

Meditation to Improve Concentration

Today, there are a lot of things that help in keeping us entertained. On the internet alone, there are a multitude of websites that do such that like video sharing sites, gaming sites, and other websites which cater to our interests. While there is nothing wrong with entertaining ourselves, a problem arises with our constant need for distractions. Because of that, it becomes difficult for us to focus on one thing.

We do not need to take extreme measures to help us focus. There are practices which can do the job for us. It includes the practice of meditation.

People take up meditation for different purposes and improving concentration is one of them. There are several methods by which meditation does its job.

One is through breathing exercises. Even an exercise that is as simple as being aware of the times we inhale and exhale can do wonders to our ability to concentrate. While it may sound easy, it can be quite difficult especially if one has to deal with distractions such as outside noise.

Another method is by reciting a mantra. A mantra is a phrase or a sound that is recited repeatedly. For Catholics, praying the rosary is a form of a mantra. The repetition becomes the center of the meditation to which the person’s attention becomes focused.

There are other more methods by which meditation can help improve concentration. However, the two mentioned above are the most basic and could help beginners start out with the practice.

The Tao of Sex : Shu Nu Ching

The Taoist tradition in China placed great importance on sex. However, Taoist sex had a far different purpose than Tantric sex.
The sexual glands create the basis for balancing Chi energy. The seven glands; the pineal, pituitary, thyroid, thymus, pancreas, adrenal and sex glands can be thought of as a storage area for this life-giving Chi. The proper balance of this energy means the difference between maintaining good health and long life, or confronting disease and cell deterioration.

In ancient China, there were three distinctly different religious philosophies that were practiced and culturally embraced during separate periods in history. The three predominant teachings were Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism.

Buddhism placed little importance on sex except for the purpose of procreation. Ancient Buddhists considered sex a distraction in their quest for "enlightenment" as a means of breaking free from the recurring cycle of reincarnation. Confucius, on the other hand, placed great importance on the strong family bond of which sex practices played an integral part.

Originally Taoism was not a religion, but a philosophy. Taoism was developed as a means of finding the secret of immortality. Read more

Tantra and Love

"Become loving. When you are in the embrace, become the embrace. Become the kiss. Forget yourself so totally that you can say, "I am no more. Only love exists." Then the heart is not beating, but love is beating. Then the blood is not circulating, but love is circulating. Then eyes are not seeing, love is seeing. Then hands are not moving to touch, love is moving to touch. Become love and enter everlasting life. Love suddenly changes your dimension. You are thrown out of time and you are facing eternity. Love can become a deep meditation, the deepest possible. Lovers have known sometimes what saints have not known." ~Osho

Swami Sex Scandals Have India Questioning an Ancient Tradition

Spiritual fakes aren't confined to India. Just because someone calls himself by a spiritual-sounding name, doesn't mean he's spiritual. Do your due diligence before accepting someone as your spiritual teacher. Run, don't walk, away from any "guru" who claims that having sex with him will awaken your kundalini, clear your karma, raise your vibration rate, etc.
The Roman Catholic Church isn't alone when it comes to scandal lately.

As the debate rages in the West about the ungodly behavior of godly men, a series of sex scandals involving India's assortment of god men -- called sadhu, baba or swami -- is making skeptics out of many Indians.

"Most god men are self-proclaimed, and they are being increasingly outed as hypocrites and fakes," said Ravi Ghatge, a retired banker in Bangalore. "Then everybody finds out that there is not an iota of spirituality in any of them," he added. Read more

7 Kama Sutra Sex Tips That Will Put You in the Hospital

The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian text which is considered the primary Sanskrit work on human sexuality. Cracked.com takes a humorous look at this legendary book and concludes that some of its advice could be dangerous.
Vatsyayana's Kama Sutra was a strategy guide for the interaction of penises and vaginas in Gupta-era India (320 to 550 CE), meant to be read by sexual partners to enhance their lovemaking. That's around the same time the New Testament was made official, and people still take that book pretty seriously. What's the problem?

Well it turns out there's a big difference between adopting moral platitudes from thousands of years ago, and trying out their sex advice. Some of the "tips" from the Kama Sutra seem to be setting people up for serious injury should they be performed incorrectly, or in some cases, if they're performed at all. Read more
