The Low-Down on Tantric Sex

Tantric sex makes an appearance in College Candy, where readers get the "low-down" on Tantric sex.
Cue two naked couples, both in sexual scenarios.

Couple 1 attacks each other like wild animals, both racing to the big O.

Couple 2 takes their time, pleasing each other in various kama sutra-like positions, aiming to prolong the act of sex by channeling sexual energy and increasing intimacy, letting go of all reservations and connecting to their sexual experience spiritually before engaging in the physical.

So, which couple are you? If you’re an ordinary lover like myself, then you can probably identify with couple 1. If couple 2′s experience sounds more appealing, then the increasingly popular “tantric sex” might be of some interest to you. Read more

6 Warning Signs of a Fake Guru

One hazard of seeking a spiritual guru is that the guru you find may be a fraud. Alison Rose Levy gives six warning signs of a fake guru.
By now, most people know that in his so-called "sweat lodge," James Arthur Ray disrespectfully borrowed traditional Native American sacred practices for use in his endurance boot camp, in order to produce "abundance" in the gullible participants. Two of those participants died. Like many, I feel sad for the families of the victims, and agree that it's appropriate for the legal system to hold Ray accountable. But it's a mistake to dismiss Ray as just one "bad apple." Why? because he exemplifies a bona-fide risk for spiritual seekers. Until people can learn to distinguish between spiritual authority and authoritarianism, and between spirituality and spiritual materialism, some will fall prey to charismatic individuals, like James Arthur Ray.

There were warning signs aplenty. Read more
To her list, I would add that if a guru actively solicits disciples, he's probably a fraud. By "actively solicit," I don't mean that anyone who advertises his books, workshops, or school is a fraud. I mean personal recruitment by the "guru" himself. For example, since starting this blog, I've been contacted by several "masters"who offered to teach me "secret" Tantric sexual practices. So far, I haven't taken advantage of these generous offers, and if you ever receeive one yourself, I would suggest that you don't either.

Buddhist Lama Death Meditation Baffles Science

When a Tibetan Buddhist lama died, his body remained odorless and with no rigor mortis for twenty days before his cremation, due to what his fellow monks called his "death meditation." Many spiritual masters, including Paramahansa Yogananda, are claimed to been in this state after their deaths by their devotees, but this case was documented by outsiders.

Orgasm Meditation

Can every woman really become orgasmic in just fifteen minutes?
"In just fifteen minutes every woman can become orgasmic," the PDF promised. It was part of a press kit for a new book about sex called Slow Sex: The Art and Craft of the Female Orgasm by Nicole Daedone. That the PDF told me all kinds of other things about the book, its philosophy and practice and its author, didn't matter, all I could do was groan.

I've become weary over the years of advice writers, self-help gurus, and authors who capitalize on sex by perpetuating messages that further hinder the enjoyment of our bodies instead of helping us. You’ve seen me rail against the lie-detector techniques perpetuated by AskMen.com, GQ's sex-for-chores barter system and even this new craze with the 40 beads. I worry because these suggestions focus on sex in a way that makes it about everything but sex. Read more

Study Says Meditation Increases Brain Size

Researchers have found evidence that meditation can alter the physical structure of our brains. People who meditate grow bigger brains than those who don't.
So if you want to develop bigger muscles and stronger bones, you pump iron. But what do you do to build a bigger brain? Meditate.

Research has confirmed the beneficial aspects of meditation. In addition to having better focus and control over their emotions, many people who meditate regularly have reduced levels of stress and bolstered immune systems. But this new research is about much more than stress management... it's about meditation changing the actual structure of the brain.

First, in an article in the Jan. 30 issue of Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging, researchers report that those who meditated for about 30 minutes a day for eight weeks had measurable changes in gray-matter density in parts of the brain associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress. Previous studies have also shown that there are structural differences between the brains of meditators and those who don’t meditate, but this was the first to document changes in gray matter over time through meditation. Achieving Tantric Orgasm with Tantra Positions

Tantra teacher Acharya Subhojit Dasgupta discusses how women can achieve Tantric orgasm with Tantra positions. I agree with what Dasgupta says about female orgasm, but I don't agree with the assertion that Tantra is dangerous unless practiced under the direct supervision of a teacher. Personal instruction is extremely helpful, but just isn't available to many people. My post The 4 Best Positions for Reaching a Tantric G-spot Orgasms  reveals some of what Acharya Subhojit Dasgupta's article does not.
The mystery of the tantra orgasm by use of tantra positions can never really be understood by the uninitiated. There is simply too little authentic information about this phenomenon available.

Only a genuine student of tantra can receive this precious knowledge from a tantra teacher. Under his tutelage, even the secrets of a woman’s tantra orgasm can unfold and be put to use.

The woman’s tantra orgasm certainly cannot be understood by study of the works of Dr. Freud and veteran sexologists like Masters and Johnson. All that these stalwarts seem to agree on is that women can experience a basic level of orgasm through clitoral stimulation.

Even today, this is the only way many women can achieve an orgasm, but not through clitoral stimulation alone. Ancient tantra answers a burning question: why do men respond so well to genitals stimulation, while most women tend to remain unresponsive to it unless they are already aroused? Read more

Tap Into Tantra for an Intimacy Infusion

Looking for a way to improve your relationship? Try Tantra. Dr. Elsbeth Meuth and Freddy Zental Weaver, founders of TantraNova, share their Tantric tips to bring you and your partner closer.
The Yin-Yang of Love
Tantra has its roots in the religions of India and has long been practiced in other Eastern countries, including China, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Here, we tend to associate Tantra with the sexual staying power of men (thank you, Sting!), but the practice isn’t simply about being better in bed.

The Tantra discipline uses ritual, energy and breathing in order to achieve harmony with the universe (the divine), yourself and your partner. It can help you learn about yourself and open the door to longer, more satisfying sex. And yes, men who practice Tantra are able to last longer through a combination of breathing, relaxation and muscle contraction. Read more

Prana as Applied to Tantric Sexual Union

There are many Prana breaths which apply directly to Tantric practice and Tantric lovemaking. Here are several of the most important and how to apply them to Tantric sexual union..
... Prana as Applied to Tantric Sexual Union

The above beginning prana practices should be mastered first. They form the basis for deeper exploration into pranayama. There are many Prana breaths which apply directly to Tantric practice and Tantric lovemaking. A true follower of the Tantric path should develop complete breath until it is totally natural; then healing breath to purify the vital and subtle channels of the body.

Thus, physical and emotional damage from the highly-charged, intense energies created by Tantric Union can be prevented.

The flows of prana, the mind, and sexual energy are interdependent. Breath control is vital to correct Tantric Union; breath is power. Fear not the power; but lean to use it carefully. Yoga and Tantric traditions believe in a five-fold division of Prana. Read more

5 Easy Tantric Sex Techniques You Can Try Tonight

You don't need to take a class to get started with Tantric sex. Kaylen Jackson reveals five easy Tantric sex techniques you can try tonight.
Tantric sex is a great way to connect emotionally and sexually to your partner. Instead of focusing on techniques to get to orgasm faster, Tantra focuses on the emotional and physical intimacy you share with someone during sex. It also teaches you to focus more on each individual sensation during sex rather than thinking of them as a means to an end. Here are five easy things to do now to have amazing orgasms with your lover.

Sanctify Your Space

If you read the morning newspaper in your bed, or you work from home in bed, eat in bed or do anything else besides sleep and have sex in your bed, then you need to start by sanctifying your space. You’re never going to feel sexual or connected to your partner in the same space that you change diapers in! Start making your bedroom a sex and sleeping only place, so when you walk into the room, you are already starting to get psychologically prepared for sex. You can also splurge on some new silky sheets and a few aromatherapy candles. Anything that you can do to appeal to your senses and get them involved will help you experience sex in a new way.
